Wimbledon Area Guide
Wimbledon is a suburban district of southwest London, in the London Borough of Merton. It has been inhabited since at least the Iron Age when the hill fort on Wimbledon Common is thought to have been constructed. The village developed with a stable rural population coexisting alongside nobility and wealthy merchants from the city. In its current day, it's overflowing with amenities, shops, restaurants and bars, plus entertainment (Wimbledon Theatre, cinema), it’s a buzzing mini-City of its own with Wimbledon Village only up the hill boasting many of its own posh boutiques, organic food shops and trendy pubs. Transport wise, it’s a real hub – you can travel by tram, train and tube to numerous destinations in and around London. it’s a bustling area that's ideal for commuters and tourists, especially those tennis aficionados for that special time of the year when the Wimbledon Championships are on.
