Nestled in the south-west of London, in the Borough of Wandsworth, lies my favorite town known as Putney. Once a small riverside village, Putney has a rich history and has been my home from 2001 as well as the home of many famous Brits including ex Deputy Prime Minister NIck Clegg, photographer Norman Parkinson and Henry VIII’s chief minister, Thomas Cromwell. The Putney of today is much different than the Putney we read about in history books. Today, Putney is a bustling neighborhood where everyone from single professionals and students, to families and more call home. Being one of the UK’s fastest growing neighborhoods, Putney has a lot to offer those who live there and those who visit for the wide array of festivals and other events the area is famous for. And now that the summer festival season is coming to a close, Putney residents have September’s calendar to look forward to.Here is a look at what’s on in and around Putney this coming September:
Thu 30 Aug to Tue 4 Sep- Putney Old Burial Ground. This mid-18th century cemetery hosts a wide range of kids days as well as some interesting theatre productions. Visit and learn about some of the more famous tombs including those of 18th century novelist, Harriet Thomson and famous traveller and author, Robert Henry Wood.
Saturday 1st September 2018- The Half Moon presents The Ultimate Beatles Tribute Live. Relive the music of The Beatles as this tribute band performs live at The Half Moon.
Sunday 2nd September 2018- The Guitar Legends Show, an electric guitar tribute to rock’s greatest legends including Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Brian May, Eric Clapton and more.
Tue 4 Sep to Sat 8 Sep- The Putney Arts Theatre is featuring, Cygnets Present: Merrily We Roll Along. This play, written by George Furth, is about the character, Franklin Shepard, a rich, famous, and influential songwriter and film producer. It takes a look at his life and how he got to where he is today.
Friday 7th September & Friday 21st September- Bats, Bugs & Beers is an evening exploration of the London Wetland Centre and it lets you listen and look for bats and learn a little about them as well as some other local nighttime wildlife. Then, sit around the campfire and enjoy a craft beer with friends.
Fri 7 Sep, Fri 21 Sep- Zippo’s Circus 2018 ’Legacy’, Britain’s Favourite Circus is coming to the New King’s Road for the very first time! This exciting event is fun for all ages and the perfect place to bring your family and enjoy the entertaining circus acts.
